WoW Skinning Guide

Skinned hides can be used by other profession such as Leatherworking, Tailoring and even Blacksmithing and Engineering. I’ll introduce skinning as a primary profession in this WoW Skinning Guide.

Skinning is a fantastic gathering profession which allows you not only to skin what you’ve killed but also what’s been left behind by others. To get started, find a trainer, which are usually near leatherworkers. Ask a guard for directions to the trainer if you can’t find one. You’ll need a skinning knife, which can be bought from a professions merchant. Read more about skinning in the WoW Skinning Leveling Guide

WoW Skinning Guide: List of skinning ranks and their associated skill levels.

  • Apprentice: Levels 1-75
  • Journeyman: Levels 50-150
  • Expert: Levels 125-225
  • Artisan: Levels 200-300
  • Master: Levels 300-375

Some secondary professions are better than others when it comes to Skinning. For instance pairing skinning with another gathering profession can be a very profitable strategy. Obviously the best complimenting profession would be Leatherworking. Alchemy and some other profession don’t go well with skinning at all.

Not every animal can be skinned. To find out if something can be skinned just hover over the corpse. The first thing you must do before skinning anything is to make sure it’s been completely looted. To be polite it’s best to wait for a player to walk away from something they’ve killed before you skin it.

Hovering over the dead beast will show you a particular color code if it’s something that can be skinned. The various colors will let you know if you can skin it and whether it will help your current skill level if you do. The following list reveal what these various color codes actually tell you.

  • Red: These are thing you won’t be able to skin at your current skill level.
  • Orange: These are harder to skin but will probably help you level up if you do manage to skin them.
  • Yellow: These are moderately difficult to skin with a moderate chance of helping you level up your skill.
  • Green: Although these are easy to skin they also probably won’t help you level up your profession.
  • Gray: These are the items that are really easy for you to skin but will serve no purpose in helping you level up your skill.

Hopefully this WoW Skinning guide gave you a good intro to skinning.Learn more about skinning in the World of Warcraft Skinning Guide
